Veterinary Technician

Our veterinary technician provides animal care by determining animal requirements; assisting in examinations and diagnostic procedures; assisting during operations; feeding and caring for animals; maintaining supplies and equipment; maintaining records.

Veterinary Technician Job Duties:

  • Able to initiate conversations with clients and assisting with examinations; reviewing medical records; completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Care for animals by taking vital signs; safely restraining animals, collecting blood samples; administering medications, drugs, and vaccines; bandaging and wrapping wounds.
  • Ability to lift and move 40 lbs. unassisted
  • Supports surgical operations by assembling required supplies and instruments; setting-up surgery table instruments; completing local/regional anesthesia; operating and monitoring anesthetic machines; hooking-up ECG monitors; preparing surgical site; placing catheters; cleaning-up post-surgical site; maintaining sterile conditions; obtaining and verifying medications.
  • Maintains safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments; sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas; storing sterile supplies; verifying shelf life; following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains animal records by documenting charges, animal conditions, reactions, and changes, updating database.
  • Maintains equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining equipment supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, requesting supplies, medications in a timely manner.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional journals; and participating in team building activities. 

Additional Veterinary Technician Skills and Qualifications:

Knowledge of general animal behavior, animal husbandry, with excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills. Ability to analyze and assess information on the fly, excellent clinical skills, ability to create and maintain a safe work environment.  Has a working knowledge of medical technologies, demonstrates attention to detail and exhibits an abundance of patience.  Has a pleasant disposition and is able to interact with staff, doctors, and clients alike
