Dr. Ryan Gorbutt joined our hospital in July 2018 and brings a strong focus on Emergency Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, and Dentistry. A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, he is passionate about delivering skilled, compassionate care when pets and their families need it most. Dr. Gorbutt finds the greatest satisfaction in being a voice for animals—advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves while guiding families through both joyful and challenging moments. Helping patients heal, providing comfort during emergencies, and strengthening the human-animal bond gives his work deep purpose and meaning every day.

Dr. Gorbutt earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Forensics and Chemistry, from Radford University in 2003. He received his veterinary degree from St. Matthew’s Veterinary School in 2009 and completed his fourth-year clinical rotations at the University of Illinois that same year. He further advanced his training by completing an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at New York City Veterinary Specialist in 2011. Having grown up in Michigan, Florida, and Virginia, Dr. Gorbutt was inspired to pursue veterinary medicine by his sister, Michelle Gorbutt, who is also a veterinarian. Her example helped shape his path and solidify his commitment to the profession.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Gorbutt enjoys a life full of adventure and family. He shares his home with Savage, an energetic Belgian Malinois; Tito, a spirited Chihuahua mix known for his sand-loving zoomies; and Cosmo, an elderly cat who seems to have surpassed her nine lives and continues to thrive. Dr. Gorbutt loves traveling and has lived in an RV while visiting 44 states—with plans to reach 48 soon. He is especially drawn to the ocean and Gulf Coast lifestyle. Above all, he credits his loving wife, Angela, for her unwavering support, encouragement, and partnership through every stage of life and career.
